Jug Island, located near Coquitlam at Belcarra Regional Park is a great hike if you’re just getting into hiking in Vancouver.
The island itself is a tiny gorgeous island located just off the northern tip of Belcarra Regional Park. The island itself is not accessible but you can hike to a beach that faces the island and offers great views of Indian Arm.

The hike itself was not that hard and even though there were quite a bit of uphill and downhills, the hike was still enjoyable.

Note: This hike leads to a beach where you can see Jug Island, but to actually get onto the island… I would recommend bringing a swimsuit (actually swimming to the island sounds kind of crazy) or Kayak to the island.
The elevation gain for this trail is around 100 m but don’t let this fool you as the trail keeps on going up and down, up and down.

We went on a day that was extremely hot (30 Degrees), and I was sweating buckets. There were breezes here and there on the trail but overall it was pretty hot. The hike was not that bad at all! The view was definitely worth it!

I can finally cross this off my list, and move onto other hikes around Vancouver!

Directions:
I started driving towards Belcarra Park from Coquitlam Central Station. From there, I followed Johnston St. and made a left turn at Guilford St.
From Guilford St., you would have to turn right at Ungless St. Then just keep on going as this street eventually turns into Loco Rd.
Follow Loco Rd until 1st Ave and you are almost there! just keep on following the signs and drive the long road all the way to Belcarra Beach!
