Conquering Daedunsan 대둔산

November 10, 2017 - November 12, 2017
[I am proud to say that I spent Pepero Day with a good friend of mine]

[전북 완주군 운주면 산북리 , 충남 논산군 벌곡면, 금산군 진산면]
"Daedunsan Provincial Park has served as a scenic site equipped with recreational facilities including cable cars and Geumgang Gureumdari (hanging bridge)."

I feel I am constantly writing and updating on the bus instead of in the comfort of my own home :P or in the comfort of my own classroom (with heating and everything)
Like how most people know me, I cannot stay at home on the weekends unless I have to. This is why I am now starting on this post on the bus once again.

This weekend: I am conquering Daedunsan.

I first discovered and heard about Daedunsan when I was watching the Korean drama “Strong woman Do bong soon”. I was mesmerized by the red bridge between the rocks and the sceneries that surrounded the bridge…

I told myself I have to go see this bridge and this led me to take the last bus bound for Jeonju from Hongcheon at 6pm on a Friday evening.

The good thing is that when I told my friend about this mountain, she was very interested as well! Good thing she agreed to come with me or else I would probably have to find a place to stay at night in Jeonju instead of staying with her (my plan now).

Just like my other travel posts, in order for me to get anywhere, I have to take a bus from my small town Sangnam to Hongcheon to transfer to places.

I barely made it in time for the last bus bound for Jeonju but I got on the bus with 2 minutes to spare.. don’t be like me, look for alternate routes if one doesn’t work LOL

The trip down to Jeonju supposedly should only take around 4 hours according to the information I found online. HOWEVER, it took more than that due to traffic on the road ㅠㅠ I thought I could barely make the bus bound for Gimje!

Another thing I have noticed is that this bus stopped at the same rest stop as my trip to Suncheon 😂 I guess all buses from Gangwon-do bound for the Southwest region of Korea stop at the rest stop in Cheongju.

Anyways, when I got to Jeonju I had to transfer to another bus bound for Gimje because my friend lives there. The transfer is quite easy and you just have to follow some people to find the ticket booth and after that, it is all good! I would say the trip down to Jeollabuk-Do is pretty smooth sailing minus the stress and worry for the bus.

I arrived in Gimje (my friend’s house) at approximately 11pm at night… after a full night’s rest, we head out early in the morning to catch the bus from Jeonju to Daedunsan!
Bus Times from Jeonju to Daedunsan: (There are 4 buses in total)
6:40 am, 9:40 am, 2:20 pm, 3:50 pm
My friend and I decided to catch the 9:40 am bus to Daedunsan! Since it was a saturday, there were tons of locals and some tourists heading for the mountain as well! The bus was full so buy your tickets early (get to the station early)!

Once we got to the mountain, we saw that there were a lot of people! I guess it makes sense since this mountain is a really popular tourist spot! There are vendors along the road that you can buy food from if you get hungry, also if you are in need of gloves or other hiking essentials~

I was really excited because the autumn foliage is still very prominent whereas the foliage in Gangwon-do has all been replaced by bare tree branches ㅠㅠ

I initially thought my friend wanted to hike the entire way up but nope, she said there is no way I am doing that… so We went ahead to purchase a cable car ticket for ₩9,500 (Roundtrip).

Unfortunately, there were a ton of people so we had times assigned to our tickets and had to wait around for about 2 hours before we can trek this famous mountain.

But at least we enjoyed the scenery this place offered us!

It looks like Duck Feet!

After waiting around and walking around the base of the mountain, it is finally our turn to board the cable car and go up the mountain! **Note: Make sure you arrive at the boarding place half and hour early and listen up for the time or look at the board! (They will announce when it is your turn)

Once you get on to the top of the mountain, there will be signs directing you where to go and places that sell food and various drinks~

The mountain itself is extremely steep so be prepared to climbed a ton of stairs and have an extreme leg day ahha

The bridge that I came here for! Definitely worth the visit here!

Going up to the observation deck deemed another challenge as the staircase was again very, very steep

Spending a bit on the mountain, we decided to head down and again we ran into a problem! There were so many people, we had to exchange our round-trip tickets for a time-reserved ticket. This time, we had to wait an hour again!

After we got down to the mountain, we walked over to where we got off the bus and discovered that there’s nowhere to buy the return ticket back to Jeonju! Turns out, we just have to pay the driver on the bus.
Daedunsan -> Jeonju (Taken from Naver - Subject to change):
9:00 am, 11:40 am, 1:00 pm, 5:10 pm, 6:25 pm
Final Thoughts: This trip was well worth it since I’ve been planning to come ever since I watched the drama! The steepness of the mountain was unexpected, so make sure you are wearing the right gear for this hike!

Last but not least, make sure you look at the weather before coming since coming in the rain and fog would not be nice nor fun!

I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK IF YOU COME VISIT! FEEL FREE TO SHOOT ME A MESSAGE IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS!
